Reposted from @domzthompson ( @get _regrann) - I want you all to understand exactly what privilege looks like and this video is the perfect representation of it. I am posting this video not to cause division, but to educate and raise awareness surrounding this sensitive topic that seems to make so many people living with privilege feel uncomfortable. Like Shaun mentioned, I can name over 100 men, women, and children of color who did not behave the same way this man behaved in this video and yet they were shot and killed without hesitation. Why is that? Why are people of color more often viewed as a physical threat than people of non-color? This reminds me of things I have personally experienced and witnessed over the years as an activist. I have participated in disruptions ranging from animal and human rights protests to environmental justice efforts and seen with my very own eyes how someone of color was treated and targeted very differently not only by law enforcement, but by fellow participants and activists of non-color. Meaning, individuals of color are usually viewed as the perpetrator and the threat when fellow activist of non-color, specifically males of non-color, are viewed and celebrated as heroes, saints, and saviors. In summary, the way some members of society view and treat men and women of color no matter the scenario is simply ignorant and needs to change. I am fed up with it and I hope no matter your color, background, or experience that you are too and will start speaking out about it because silence is not the answer. Silence is dangerous and as the late MLK once said, “There comes a time when silence is betrayal.” .
