Yesterday, I spent my afternoon with a lovely audience presenting a lunch talk at the #RHBLearningWeek 🤩
The topic - Stay Relevant or Be Redundant - is a tough message to share but one that urgently needs to be addressed.
We live today in a climate where workers worldwide are facing the repercussions of job loss... as robots, AI and gig workers replace employees at an alarming rate.
This is a world in which the skills that help you stay relevant are the skills that robots and AI cannot replace... soft skills, creative & communicative skills, and vocational skills, and the only way to avoid being redundant is to develop a mindset that embraces learning at every - and any - age.
It only seemed right for me to share a little about my Mum because to me, she is the epitome of the person who never stops learning. All her life she has taught herself new things, from pottery, to carpentry, to silkscreen printing, to photography, to videography, to editing and to now, being a photojournalist for EconomyTraveller.com.
She is the reason that I too, have never stopped learning, moving from one industry to another, always keeping my mind open to possibilities and opportunities.
This growth mindset cannot be learnt in university. It is a state of being. A decision you make to “be more”. It is what makes us human. Anything less and we are reduced simply to being the repetitive robots that are already replacing us.
So, friends, what new skill will you make a decision to learn today?
