AMERICA lost a true hero yesterday...Valhalla awaits you MSG Mark Allen🇺🇸🇺🇸
Jul 21, 1973 – Oct 12, 2019
It was December 2011 that Loganville residents lined the streets to welcome home Master Sgt. Mark Allen two years after he was critically wounded in Afghanistan while searching for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl who at that time had gone missing in Afghanistan. And now, eight years later, Allen and his family will be traveling a similar route as he is laid to rest in Snellville Oct. 18 after finally succumbing to his wounds.
According to the Army Times, “Allen was shot in the head in July 2009 while searching for Bergdahl. The traumatic brain injury dramatically changed life for Allen, his wife and two children. Once an avid outdoorsman, Allen depends on a wheelchair and can’t speak.” Allen had already completed a tour and could have chosen not to take this deployment, but reportedly chose to go to support his unit.
Allen spent two years in a hospital before returning to his Loganville home with his family where he has lived for the past eight years.
There will be a visitation from 4 – 8 p.m. Oct. 17 at Tim Stewart Funeral Home in Loganville. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, at the First Baptist Church in Snellville. He will be laid to rest at Corinth Memorial Gardens, 1635 Highway 81 SW in Loganville. #Army #Hero #LandOfTheFreeBecauseOfTheBrave
