Hi, it’s Stephanie, I’m the founder of Fillgood. Today I’m very excited to announce that since Fillgood was created, we have helped avoiding 4280 lbs of single use plastics!
4280 lbs = 1.94 metric tons = more than 400,000 plastic bags = more than 4.2 million plastic straws.
Huge thanks to all our fantastic customers who make this number increase every day!
I know it seems like a drop in the ocean compared to the staggering 22,000 metric tons that enter our ocean every day. Regularly on social media people express how hopeless they feel when they try their best and see there’s still so much more to change. But if we give up and do nothing, the situation will be worse because the plastic industry will not give up.
To make a bigger impact, we have to focus on positive results: share your plastic free habits with your friends, your family, your neighbours. It works: you will be surprised to see that many people around you are interested to make a difference, they just don’t know where to start and they need an extra push. Be that push!
And to help you keep your motivation, join a local group focused on plastic pollution or climate change (for example @climatereality , @projectdrawdown have local chapters; @heirstoouroceans empowers the younger generation; @zerowasteyouthusa ): in the East Bay, I meet once a month with the Plastic Reduction Working Group, in Berkeley or Albany. We support each other, share resources and find new ways to spread the word. Next meetup this Wednesday 10/16, from 6pm to 8pm, leave a comment if you’d like to learn more!
